New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged startups, IITs, innovators and entrepreneurs to develop new solar models that can meet a larger share of household energy needs, as India seeks to accelerate the next phase of its solar revolution.
Addressing the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, PM Modi said the new era of solar energy will be driven not only by wider adoption but also by innovation.
“This new era of the solar revolution is not just about adoption, it is equally driven by innovation,” said PM Modi.
“I strongly urge our startups, IITs, innovators, and entrepreneurs to develop solar models that ensure the maximum energy needs of a household are fulfilled through solar power,” he said.
PM Modi Calls for Round-the-Clock Solar Models
PM Modi called for the development of round-the-clock and all-weather solar models that can expand the role of solar energy in households.
The solutions, he suggested, should go beyond conventional rooftop electricity generation and address multiple household energy requirements.
The Prime Minister highlighted the potential of rooftop solar cooking, which could help reduce reliance on imported gas, as well as home solar charging for electric two-wheelers and cars.
“Through this, middle-class families of the country can save thousands of rupees every year,” noted PM Modi.
Solar Innovation to Go Beyond Household Electricity
PM Modi also called for innovation in solar applications across rural and allied sectors.
He specifically highlighted the need for dedicated solar products for the dairy sector and other agricultural activities.
“For animal fodder, crop harvesting, and post-harvest, solar equipment should be developed for every such work,” asserted PM Modi.
The Prime Minister’s call therefore extends solar innovation beyond electricity generation to applications across farming, livestock-related activities, crop harvesting and post-harvest operations.
Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026: PM Modi Highlights Need for Indigenous Storage and Battery Innovation
The Prime Minister also pointed to the importance of next-generation innovation, indigenous storage hardware and new battery storage capacity for achieving India’s clean energy goals.
He described this requirement as a major opportunity for India’s youth and called on researchers and investors to take advantage of it.
“The solutions that you prepare in India will come in handy for numerous countries of the world,” affirmed PM Modi.
According to PM Modi, solutions developed in India could have applications beyond the domestic market and benefit countries around the world.
Solar Innovation Could Create New Industries and Jobs
PM Modi also linked the expansion of clean energy applications with employment opportunities.
He said clean energy initiatives in one of the world’s youngest nations are generating thousands of jobs across panel and hardware manufacturing, installation, servicing and transportation.
The Prime Minister said expanding solar capacity and applications could further multiply employment opportunities across the economy.
“From the kitchen stove to the means of transport, when everything is solar-power-driven and green-energy-driven, then a new industry will be created,” observed PM Modi.
The Prime Minister highlighted the country’s progress in domestic solar manufacturing, with solar module manufacturing capacity rising from around 2 Gigawatts a decade ago to more than 200 Gigawatts today. India also has nearly 40 Gigawatts of solar cell capacity.
He described the growth of domestic clean energy manufacturing as evidence of the success of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India campaigns.
